Amy’s experience as a care provider for women combined with her love for the beauty and sacredness of birth makes her a uniquely intuitive and confident care provider.
As the owner of Art of Nursing Care Inc., which she started in 2006, she initially intended to open a home health care agency for pregnant women with complications. Art of Nursing Staff
Sarah Shealy is a Registered Nurse, Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant, and mother of two amazing girls, both born at home. She has served women and caught babies in both home and hospital settings since 1995. She has practiced in Connecticut, New York, Utah, and California. Sarah’s Midwifery education began at Yale University. At Yale, there were few opportunities for out of hospital birth experience and she sought out a local direct entry Midwife who was generous enough to mentor her in the art of homebirth. Another CNM with a homebirth practice offered mentorship and a CNM was her first partner in a homebirth practice in Colorado. Sarah has worked with low risk and high-risk women, in community and private practice settings, in and out of the hospital. She is an expert in normal birth and passionate about supporting women and families in their choices whatever they may be.
Recently her love of the art and science of lactation prompted her to become a Lactation Consultant. She is especially fascinated with the postpartum experience in our culture. This extensive experience she has had with women in different settings brings a quiet observant knowing to her style. She is a perceptive and seasoned care provider.
Carolyn Rodriguez is our office Manager, Carolyn has a bachelors degree in psychology from Cal State Long Beach and has volunteered to pregnancy clinics in West Los Angeles. She currently helps with a wide variety of support both front and back office including insurance billing, appointment scheduling etc. In addition to office support she also supports our clients during birth as a doula or sibling care during birth. She also assists our childbirth education team and coordinates our volunteers and Midwifery apprentices to assist the practice. She is bilingual in both English and Spanish.

When not doing midwifery work, Krystel loves living in Long Beach, creating community through shared meals, and spending time with her partner and their scruffy rescue pup, Basil.

During your care with us you will meet a few different faces. We have a lot of contacts with doula’s, birth assistants, nurses and midwifery students. We ask that you be open to having our staff or students assist in your care. We have a strong belief that if you have skilled birth attendants you will be well cared for and in a safe place during birth. If you ever have any concerns about our staff please let us know. We are committed to you having the experience that you want for your family.
