Owner / CEO: Amy Tinney

Amy Tinney is a Registered Nurse, Licensed Midwife, and Certified Professional Midwife. We have the best midwifery and doula services in Los Angeles. Our staff is highly skilled and provides the greatest level of midwifery care to pregnant women during their childbirth experience.

We provide one of the best childbirth experiences at our very safe birth rooms and experienced childbirth and mother care facilities.

Amy is a mother to an awesome teenage boy. She earned her Midwifery license from the California Medical Board in 2009 and started her Midwife practice. Amy has worked with pregnant mothers and newborn babies since 1990. She has worked as a Registered Nurse in clinics, hospital settings, and in home health, all with women and pregnancy. During her work as a Nurse she attended many hundreds of child births both in and out of the hospital. She has also worked with clients as a Doula/Monitrice, childbirth educator. Amy’s path to midwifery services and Doula care included an apprenticeship in a busy home birth practice and Midwife services in Los Angeles, CA. Amy’s apprenticeship included attending families beginning with prenatal care through child birth and postpartum care. Her extensive previous clinic, home health-care for high risk obstetrics, and birth related experiences allowed her to progress faster than usual through her apprenticeship, then she took over the training of new students at the Sanctuary Family Wellness center while waiting to take her exams.

In addition to her hands on apprenticeship experience, Amy completed her Midwifery or Doula care education thru many years of self guided education and the PEP (portfolio evaluation process) through The National Registry of Midwives (NARM) and the National Midwifery Institute’s (NMI) Challenge process. Amy currently teaches Nursing and Midwifery students from a variety of Nursing and Midwifery programs as well as other care providers, and enjoys sharing her knowledge and expertise in a non challenging way. She has also participated in international education as well traveling to China in 2/2012 to teach Advanced Midwife skills.  Amy’s experience as a care provider for women combined with her love for the beauty and sacredness of child birth makes her a uniquely intuitive and confident care provider and good midwife.

As the owner of Art of Nursing Care Inc., which she started in 2006, she initially intended to open a home health care agency for pregnant women with complications. Since that time she expanded her education to become a midwife and now includes support for women of all ages including the childbearing years, before and beyond.  She has a background in clinical homeopathy, herbal remedies and essential oil applications. Currently she is seeing clients in Marina Del Rey at the Art of Birthing Center.

Art of Nursing Staff

Sarah Shealy is a Registered Nurse, Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant, and mother of two amazing girls, both born at home. She has served pregnant women and helped in delivery babies in both home and hospital settings since 1995. She has practiced as midwife in Connecticut, New York, Utah, and California. Sarah’s Midwifery education began at Yale University. At Yale, there were few opportunities for out of hospital child birth experience and she sought out a local direct entry Midwife who was generous enough to mentor her in the art of home birth and natural childbirth. Another CNM with a home birth practice offered mentor ship and a CNM was her first partner in a home birth practice in Colorado. Sarah has worked with low risk and high-risk pregnant women, in community and private practice settings, in and out of the hospital. She is an expert in normal and natural child birth and passionate about supporting pregnant women and families in their choices whatever they may be. She currently offers only well woman care, post-partum care, childcare and lactation support at Art of Birthing center. This extensive experience she has had with women in different settings brings a quiet observant knowing to her midwife care style. She is a perceptive and seasoned care provider and very good midwife. She currently is not catching babies but she supports our families with the Breastfeeding class and lactation and post-partum support as needed.
